Hi,
What a great adventure! Since you are in Seattle, we would definitely recommend taking a ferry over to the San Juan Islands. I saw them first in 1973 and never forgot how beautiful they were, and finally returned with Jim 2 years ago. We fell in love with Lopez Island and want to make it our 2nd home one day. Orcas Island and Lopez both have wonderful camping areas, Lopez is famous for biking, plus there is a winery there.
When you get closer to So. CA, give us a heads up re when you might be arriving in San Diego, so we can be sure to be here! (Stacey, I am glad you are a Planner, like me!) Galen, we have moved to a much smaller house, in the neighborhood where I grew up. Our little house was built in 1929 and is charming. You are welcome to stay in our guest room, sleeping in my great-grandparents’ four-poster bed (I like old stuff too). We have some great restaurants 3 blocks away we can take you to.
Oh, and speaking of old stuff, today we met with an architect who is going to help us restore the 1905 house I inherited from my aunt. It is one block from Balboa Park. Who knows where we will be in the process when you hit town! That is our adventure.
Have fun and thanks for including us in your travels this way. It looks like you are going to CO? If so, better stop and see Brian! Is he on your email list?
Love,
Aunt Christine and Uncle Jim

I definitely suggest coming to Colorado. If you head north out of four corners, you can enjoy Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Ridgway, Montrose, Gunnison, and other points beyond (depending on how you go).

If you’re looking for places to eat, check out Buen Tiempo in Ouray, and the Gunnisack in Gunnison. There’s also a little barbecue joint in Salida called Smokin’ Jacks.

Of course, when you get to our place, we’ll take good care of you!

If you’re looking for a good read on the road, check out Donald Miller’s “Through Painted Deserts.” It’s about a road trip that starts in Texas and ends in Oregon.

I have read that book also Ron- love it! (and love all books by Donald MIller)
Stacey- the movie I suggested at some point is called “Away We Go”- should be out on DVD…
Thanks again guys for the good times and of course great food- the Italian sausage pasta (with fresh parmesan and more parmesan) and Honey/Caramel/Walnut dessert were my favorites!
